“ Food is great, by the time I picked it up and drove home (near Ashbrook) the food was still hot. Brisket (fatty) was tender and juicy. Great job we will return. Atmosphere was a bit Erie people just starred like I had two heads. Welcome to Make America Great. ”

The pulled pork was piled high the slaw was excellent and the NC vinegar sauce was flavorful. The service was excellent and three ladies had this place running like a well oiled machine. Teamwork was the key. The interior was homespun and relaxing with decor that belongs in a smokehouse BBQ bar. I would jump off the interstate any day to enjoy this local fare! ”
“ Absolutely LOVE this place!!! I've always been a fan of McKoys smokehouse in Charlotte and think their BBQ was the best I've had. Well, I'm so pleased to say, since moving to Gastonia, Ray's not only matches it, but arguably beats it. Really good pork! That being said, I love the old school atmosphere and the staff is always friendly and prompt. Kinda reminds me of the old Bill Spoons back in the day. All I can say is, if you're looking for BBQ, you got the right spot. We love it and highly recommend it. Bonus, on Thursdays they have burnt ends! ”
“ If you were just passing by, you wouldn't even notice this place. This is a very unassuming neighborhood hole-in-the wall kind of restaurant that has been there for years. This is popular among locals so it is very "Gastonia". If you are coming from Charlotte and beyond you know what to expect. That being said, Ray's has great BBQ so it is definitely worth giving it a try! There is a lot of choice on the menu with various offerings. The food comes out quickly and it has never disappointed us. We have ordered ribs, chicken, pulled pork, burgers, and smoked turkey during our several visits. All of it has been great. You can park out front or along the left side of the building there is a long open lot. ”
“ Today, we went on the hunt for some great hot dogs . While it is something simple, it can easily be messed up with a mushy hot dog or bun. Saw there were recommendations on Ray's and decided to head there. Our waitress was Amber, and Madison was as well there too to assist. I loved a few things in this quaint place. 1. The bacon wrapped hot dog with the homemade BBQ coleslaw was on point. They offer 3 slaws (Regular, BBQ, and red slaw) and goodness . The BBQ was my favorite . 2. We saw regulars coming and talking to the servers and people there like family. When you get regulars at a place, it speaks volumes for service and food. 3. They serve a few options of beers, including a local beer from Charlotte . 4. Service was impecable with smiles and all the questions I had being answered. I even asked to try the slaws to decide if I wanted a specific one and was given samples. So yummy Learning that they have been in business over 62 years is super cool. We also noticed that their menu has something you don't see often. That's local businesses advertising in them. I think, in my opinion, it gives quaint places like this a certain je ne sais quoi. So, while yes, this is a review on hot dogs it's also showing an honest review on a place where you can feel at home and enjoy a nice meal. ”
